Nestled in the beautiful Blue Ridge mountains near Asheville, North Carolina, YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly is a full-service conference center situated on 1200 acres of woodland beautified by mountain streams, wildflowers, ridges, valleys and spectacular views.  YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly is rich in history. Founded in 1906 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and serves 30,000 guests annually. The facility has so much to offer and it is an ideal location for our Reiki Retreat.

The retreat is suitable for both practitioners at all trained level and non practitioners who are just interested in joining the circle.

Reiki Retreat 2012 Participants

It was an amazing weekend for all of us who attended  and we can’t wait for next year’s retreat to come!

Reiki Retreat 2012 – “Celebrating Fall Equinox! Bringing balance to your life” brought together 13 retreat participants/Reiki practitioners with varied levels of Reiki training. The  training levels and Reiki lineage were not a barrier between 13 participants who were looking forward to a wonderful spiritual weekend retreat.

Each morning, we started off the day with a program called “Connecting to the source”. Participants were asked to practice sending and receiving energy with nature during their private time.  Our theme topic “Celebrate fall equinox, bringing balance to your life” was presented on the first day of our retreat. The topic was about celebrating and appreciating the traditional harvesting of crops. It is also a powerful and important time to go inward and reflect on our personal and spiritual growth/journey.  The daily group meditation and Reiki healing session were the key programs during the retreat. The theme meditation was presented on day 1. This guided meditation with enchanted background music lulled and inspired us to reflect on the theme and what fall equinox means to us on cultural and spiritual levels. The daily group Reiki healing session helped remove blockages and energy that no longer serving us.   The afternoon activities include “Enjoying the Blue Mountains” where we went for a group boat tour to refresh our energy on Lake Lure, a famous and favorite location for filming movies in the Blue Ridge Mountains.  This preceded our evening of spiritual cinema, during which we viewed the move: “Peaceful Warrior”!  This is a movie demonstrating the practice of mindfulness to create inner peace and empower our life.

Group Reiki Session

The 2nd day of our retreat was all about setting intentions for our goals and dreams. The intention settings workshop taught us the power of setting intentions and the workshop provided us a practical experience for setting personal intentions that will bring balance into our life and help us move forward on our spiritual journey.  The 2nd day’s guided meditation, group Reiki healing, manifesting your dream and desires art class and self-reflective time were designed to support our “letting go” and “intention settings” process.  In the evening, we celebrated the Fall Equinox under the moonlight,  around bonfire.  The celebration began with a “Thanksgiving blessing”, a “Circle Dance for Peace” and “Burning our personal letting-go worksheets”.  Drumming followed the ceremony and participants took turns sharing their profound spiritual experiences. The magical evening was further elevated by a beautiful and unplanned singing performance by a retreat participant.

Laughter filled the joyful moments during the last day of our retreat.  After a powerful self-guided meditation and group healing session, we were closing on the end of our retreat but another  exciting moment was just about to begin.  After taking group photos, we gathered at the meeting room and viewed pictures from our Reiki retreat photo contest.  After viewing the submissions and listening to each contest participant’s presentation, we voted. We had winners for “The funniest picture” award and “The Reiki retreat 2012 theme picture” award. The photos were truly earned their honor. A heart- felt closing ceremony concluded our 4 days and 3 nights spiritual Reiki retreat and left each of us a very memorable time.  It is never easy to say good-bye, we all look forward to when we meet again next year.

Reiki, pronounced (Ray-Ki) is a non-invasive, complementary therapy that is used for stress reduction and symptom relief.   Reiki can induce a relaxed and meditative state for both the giver and  receiver. It produces a natural healing environment for the body, mind and spirit. Reiki is an easy to learn technique to improve physical health, emotional well-being and revitalize spirit.

The community is invited to celebrate the opening of the Reiki Healing Center.  Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the Reiki healing center and the services it provides, and meet the center’s staff and volunteers.

RERI was founded by Mei Yin Hung and Bill Coryer as a not for profit organization in Charlotte NC. The organization was established in 2008 and is now opening a Reiki healing center in Myers park, Charlotte. The purpose of the organization is to raise awareness of Reiki therapy in the community, build a network for Reiki practitioners and to provide Reiki therapy to the community to improve physical and emotional health. The Institute offers Reiki treatment, community clinic, Reiki classes; Reiki advanced workshops and metaphysical programs, annual Reiki practitioner retreat and is involved with local health wellness fairs.

We are very excited and hopeful for the new Charlotte Reiki Healing Center. The center will represent a key milestone for the development of Reiki Education and Research Institute and it’s continual effort in offering and expanding Reiki healing program and services in Charlotte. We envision the center as a resource center for people who seek healing on the physical,  mental,  emotional and spiritual levels as well as personal and spiritual growth.  The center will provide professional, quality, in-depth Reiki training, continued education on Reiki and related metaphysical subjects, Reiki treatments and more.

The Reiki Education and Research Institute, located in Gastonia, North Carolina, sponsor the Reiki Symptom Management Clinic.

The Reiki Symptom Management Clinic is currently accepting applications for participation in a clinical research project designed to study and validate the role of Reiki as a complementary healing tool.

The Reiki Symptom Management Clinic will focus on the role of Reiki in the treatment and management of symptoms related to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, grief related stress or depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Reiki will be introduced and studied as a healing modality that supports and works in conjunction with traditional medical treatments.

Participants will receive Reiki treatments at no cost.

Because Reiki Education and Research Institute is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization, donations are tax deductible and are welcomed to support The Reiki Symptom Management Clinic and other programs.

Q. I want to participate in the clinic and receive Reiki treatments at no cost. Do I automatically qualify?

A. The Reiki Symptom Management Clinic is currently seeking program participants with a diagnosis of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, grief related stress or depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Other conditions will be considered. If you believe you will benefit from participating in the research project, contact RERI at 704-644-3644 to discuss your symptoms and condition. Applications or interviews are required for all participants and conditions.  Space is limited.

Q. If I am accepted into the Reiki Symptom Management Clinic, where will the research and Reiki treatments take place?

A. All Reiki treatments and research will be conducted at the Gastonia office of Reiki Education and Research Institute. The office is located at 2020 Remount Road.

Q. Who will provide Reiki treatments in the Reiki Symptom Management Clinic?

A. Specially trained volunteers from the Reiki Education and Research Institute will be administering all Reiki sessions.

Reiki and Traditional Medical Treatments

Reiki is not a substitute or replacement for your current medical care.

The Reiki Symptom Management Clinic is designed to study and validate the role of Reiki as a complementary healing tool that works in conjunction with traditional medical treatments.

This research study will aim to validate the role of Reiki in supporting traditional medical treatments for symptoms of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, grief related stress or depression and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Divinely Guided to the 2011 Reiki Retreat

This September, Reiki Education and Research Institute, a Charlotte and Gastonia based non-profit organization that provides Reiki training and Reiki treatment clinics for the greater Charlotte/Gastonia community, hosted a 4 day Reiki retreat in Black Mountain, North Carolina.

Reiki Education and Research Institute founders, Bill Coryer and Mei Yin Hung, who also maintain a Charlotte Reiki meetup group, teach Charlotte Reiki classes and Gastonia Reiki classes and run a Reiki treatment program for cancer patients planned four amazing days of outdoor activities, group interaction, Reiki sharing and inspiration for the Reiki retreat.

I was a Reiki level 2 student with Reiki Education and Research Institute when I first heard about the second annual Reiki retreat. I got a subtle jolt of intuition that said YES, when my teachers also the founders of Reiki Education and Research Institute, started planning the second annual Reiki retreat. Six months before the retreat actually took place, Mei Yin asked me if I wanted to attend, I signed up immediately. I wasn’t sure how I was going to pay for it, but I knew the Universe would make a way.

In the past, I never attended out-of-town retreats. I was uncomfortable with of large groups of ‘strangers’, and often became nervous about participating in new experiences. However, I experienced absolutely no anxiety or apprehension when I decided to attend the Reiki retreat offered by Reiki Education and Research Institute .

In fact, from the very beginning, I simply knew that I needed to attend. And, six months after I signed up for the retreat, as I packed my favorite suitcase with flashlights, snacks, journals and a drum for the retreat campfire circle, I was grinning from ear to ear. I had a stunningly peaceful knowing that the YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly in Black Mountain, North Carolina was exactly where I needed to go for the next few days. I also knew that the retreat participants were exactly who I needed to spend time with.

I knew that some of the other participants would be students from Reiki Education and Research Institute. The organization offers Charlotte Reiki classes and Gastonia Reiki classes. As a Reiki student myself, I knew I would have much in common with the other retreat participants. The old anxiety I had felt in the past about heading out-of-town alone, meeting new people and interacting with ‘strangers’ simply never surfaced. The first day of the retreat, ready to hit the road from Charlotte to Black Mountain, I discovered that my GPS device would not map directions to the retreat center. When I typed retreat center’s address, the GPS simply reported that it did not recognize the site. Strangely, I wasn’t worried.

I decided that mapping a route to Asheville, North Carolina would get me close enough to Black
Mountain. I would simply drive, watching for miracles and Black Mountain interstate signage. So, with no solid directions and an unshakeable inner knowing, I headed west. Thinking about the retreat as I drove, I marveled at how calm I was feeling about spending four days with a roommate I had never met.

As I thought about the other retreat participants that I would soon be meeting, I had a hunch that each
person was going to bring something essential, and special, to the gathering. And, for the first time in a long time, I felt I was going to add something to the group experience too. As I pondered these thoughts, a long semi-truck slowed down next to me, and I read the side of the trailer while it crept along. It said, “You Are Needed”.

Love, Unity and Community: A Personal Experience
I arrived at the retreat center right on time. A miraculous hush seemed to have fallen over the forest and I traveled slowly down the winding driveway, watching sunlight trickle through the trees. The air was sweet, and the woods were bursting forth in a million different shades of green. When I reached the group lodge, I sat in my car for a few minutes to fully savor the beginning of the retreat weekend. I knew I was never going to forget it.

Our retreat group was a perfect hologram of humanity. My fellow participants were both young and older, from diverse backgrounds and amazing experiences. I was the only student from the organization’s Charlotte Reiki classes, but there were other participants from the Gastonia Reiki classes. Right away, my roommate and I discovered many amazing synchronicities. She works as a substance abuse counselor, which is the field I am preparing to train in. We have undertaken very similar healing journeys, and felt instantly comfortable with each other. We were sharing our snacks and telling stories in no time.

The group also included a sweet grandmother who passionately loves wearing the color lavender, a wise cracking motorcycle enthusiast, new friends who traveled to the retreat from Kuwait and Hawaii, and Reiki practitioners from all over North and South Carolina. Our theme for the retreat was Love, Unity and Community, and we bonded through many meaningful experiences at the retreat center and in the gorgeous mountains.

I especially loved our early morning Qi Gong sessions, the group hike to the top of Mount Mitchell,an
afternoon spent meditating together inside The Light Center, our spiritual cinema movie night, eating brownies with my roommate and Bill after everyone else had gone to bed, and the powerful and spiritual group Reiki healing sessions in which each participant received a Reiki treatment from the entire group.  Over the course of the retreat weekend, illusions of separateness seemed to melt away. There was a palpable energy of unity and unconditional love within our group. It was fun to look around and see so many outer differences among us, knowing that the truth of Love, Unity and Community was so much more real and powerful. On the last night of the retreat, we gathered at a lake on the retreat grounds for a campfire.

There was a family energy, something I had not felt in a very long, within the group. I realized that I was truly experiencing Love, Unity and Community, as we danced, drummed, watched the fire and laid on a blanket to star gaze together. Holding hands with someone who seemed like a stranger days before, laughing and being my true self in the company of others and feeling unconditional acceptance among my fellow retreat participants was an unforgettable experience. I was reading and studying about love and unity for years. But, the retreat provided a “lab class”where I could learn what it really feels like.

Sharing My Retreat Experience
I returned home to Charlotte with new eyes and a lighter heart. I simply couldn’t look at things the same way anymore. The memory of merging with a group of other people and truly loving them unconditionally was so powerful. And, feeling unconditionally loved by others gave me an idea of what kind of world is actually possible.
I learned that accepting myself leads to accepting others. Accepting others leads to unconditional love. And, unconditional love leads to unity and community. I have been inspired to carry those principles, and the retreat experience, home with me. Everyday, I try to recreate those feelings of Love, Unity and Community in my home, workplace and among my circle of friends.
Gazing at the stars, sitting next to a blazing campfire and breathing in the energy and beauty of the forest will always bring me back to Reiki Education and Research Institute’s 2011 Reiki Retreat in Black Mountain, North Carolina. And, I will never forget the group of people who took this journey with me. I am so thankful for the opportunity to take part.

Looking Toward the Future
Following the retreat, I embarked on an additional course of study, and became a Reiki 3 student with Reiki Education and Research Institute. I have gained so much from the work of this organization that I have also decided to become a volunteer and I plan to attend next year’s Reiki Retreat.
